Tuition fees for study programs offered in foreign languages are determined separately by each university/faculty. Fees range from €580 to €12,200 per academic year. Updated information on tuition fees can be obtained from the international relations offices of the respective universities/faculties.

However, students studying full-time in Slovakia before the standard study period do not pay tuition fees if they study a program offered in Slovak.

For students studying based on international agreements, tuition fees, and education-related payments must follow these agreements’ provisions. The provisions do not apply to international students with permanent residence in the territory of the Slovak Republic

Application Form

• It should be written neatly by hand or on a computer using block letters
• Must be signed by the applicant himself

For minors:

• Must be signed by the individual’s parent or guardian

2. Photograph

• Must have been taken within the last six months
• The size should be 3.5×4.5
• Must be drawn on a white background

3. Travel Document (Foreign Passport)

• Must be valid for at least three months from the intended (final) departure date from the Schengen area
• Must have at least two blank pages.
• Must have been purchased within the last ten years

4. Old / Expired or Another Valid Foreign Passport

• If the applicant’s expired foreign passport has previous Schengen visas, that passport must also be submitted.

5. Copy of your Identity Card and Residence Permit/Visa (if your country of residence and citizenship are different)

• A copy of documents should be submitted along with other documents.
• The required validity period for these documents is three months from the date you leave Slovakia.

6. Documents not older than 90 days indicating the purpose of residence

• Confirmation of the admission of a third-country national to a study program by an authorized public administration body or confirmation of admission from an organization managing activities within the programs approved by the Government of the Slovak Republic or from European Union programs under a contract with an authorized public administration body

7. Certificate of Conviction Not Older Than 90 Days

• Certificate of conviction from the country of citizenship
• Certificate of conviction from a third country, spent 90 days in six consecutive months in the last three years

8. Documents Confirming the Availability of Financial Funds for Housing Not Older Than 90 Days

• Reference from the bank account of the third-country citizen
• Confirmation of receipt of scholarship
• Proof of legal entity’s financial sources
• Statements from the person’s bank account

9. Documents for Provision of Residence Not Older than 90 Days

• Confirmation of ownership of real estate by a citizen of a third country
• In the case of a lease agreement with the real estate owner, the lease agreement and documents related to the use of the property (for example, an apartment lease agreement)
• Proof of residence or property
• Declaration and ownership document on the transfer of property to a foreign citizen or legal entity in the Slovak Republic (Article 122. Act on the residence of foreigners)

Education in Slovakia

Free education in Slovakia is available only in the local language. Here, the principle of admission to universities is the same as in the Czech Republic:

– you must know the local language at B2 level and higher;

– you must nostrify the education document;

– if necessary, you must pass entrance exams. Usually, it consists of 60 to 120 questions.

The education level in Slovakia is considered relatively high compared to other countries.

Master’s degree in Slovakia:

Master’s degree programs usually take one to three years. To get a degree, you must write a master’s thesis and take a state exam.

The official language in the country is Slovak, but do not worry if you still need to start it. Many institutions offer Master’s courses in foreign languages – mainly in English, but sometimes German, French, or Hungarian.

Both for citizens of Slovakia and EU member states. The same applies to citizens of the EEA or Switzerland, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia and Ukraine. Annual fees for non-EU students are between 2,000 and 5,000 Euros.

Slovak higher education consists of public, public, and private universities.

General Principles

Bachelor degree:

The main requirement for entering a Bachelor’s degree program (3-4 years of full-time study) or a program combining Level 1 and 2 (5-6 years of full-time study) is completing upper secondary general education or vocational education.

Master’s degree:

Admission to a subsequent master’s program (2-3 years of full-time study) depends on completing the relevant Bachelor’s degree program or equivalent.

Doctoral degree: (PhD)

Admission to the doctoral program (Ph.D.) depends on completing the Level 2 study program.

Students wishing to study in a full degree program should apply directly to the respective universities. Students can apply for several study programs at different universities and faculties. Each university determines the deadline for submitting applications, usually in late February or March. The relevant faculty or university determines the admission process’s date, content, and form (oral or written exam, aptitude test). Entrance exams are usually held between June and September. Arts colleges have exams earlier (in January), and the application deadline is usually the end of November.
